I got in! I will be a middle school science teacher in the South Louisiana region (that's Baton Rouge and some of the surrounding rural parishes) for the '09-'10 and '10-'11 school years.
Yes, I did Ancient History at university. Yes, I haven't done science since high school. But hey, I can do this! Science in middle school is the fun class where you get to do explodey type projects! Mentos and Diet Coke! The Egg Drop! I can do science.
In any case: I am very very excited. And I have a JOB. Y'all. A job! People will pay me to do stuff! Crazy talk.
In other news, I leave for Brazil in three days. Heh.

Hi there, we don't know each other. I googled for Teach for America blog entries today on acceptance (New Orleans/secondary English!), and felt the need to leave you a comment when I saw yours, because:
1) Louisiana TFA excitement;
2) I'm finishing up my Classics degree at university (thesising on Thucydides); and
3) I live with Candy of SBTB, which you link to.
Hope to see you in Louisiana next year!
That's really cool! I'm so glad you commented. My contact at TFA in South Louisiana is also a former Classicist (she did her thesis on Nero - I did mine on Martial) so it seems we're in good company! And please tell Candy that I fangirl SBTB like mad. I fully anticipate that Trashy Books will get me through my TFA years the same way they got me through my dissertation.
Anyway, congrats to you!
Oh god, Martial. So much with the hilarious obscenity and really obscure vocabulary.
Congratulations to you, too! Candy was tickled to hear what you said. [She's standing here eating chocolate ice cream and watching me type, actually.]
Have fun traveling-- I'd love to keep in touch as we both wend towards Institute.
Hi,
Congratulations!! I got accepted too as a secondary science teacher. I have a question for you...how do you know you are teaching middle school? I really hope that mine means middle school as well? Let me know if you have an answer. Thanks!!!
Oh yeah and sorry for the random post :)
!!! So excited for you and proud of you!
